Nomenclature of construction steels

Designation of construction steels based on DIN 17100 standard

Considering that the steels classified in this standard have construction applications, the product is produced in the form of sheets and their production method is hot rolling.

Their target population is mostly civil engineers, because they are more practical, the basis of naming steel strength is considered and, like the AISI standard, alloy composition is not mentioned.

The naming method is as follows:

A:

%S, P ≤ 0.045, which is called Quality steel and gives 27J in the impact test at ambient temperature.

B:

%S, P ≤ 0.04 and gives 27J in the impact test at 0 degrees Celsius.

C:

%S, P ≤ 0.035, which is called Special steel and gives 27J in the impact test at -20 degrees.

If the suffix was not written in the steel designation, it means XX-2
If no prefix was written in the steel designation, it means R
